Speaking with purpose, Toyia Taylor
Toyia Taylor's passion is helping people speak with purpose. For Toyia this is a matter of finding one's true voice and using it to speak with authenticity and confidence.
While she coaches executives and professional athletes, her real passion is working with young people. For Toyia **giving kids the confidence **to express themselves is a critical skill that underlies success in every other aspect of their lives. This conviction comes out of her own experience and the life-changing impact of a teacher who helped her find her voice.
Toyia founded her company, We.APP (We Act, Present and Perform), as an after-school program in 2012. Since then it's grown into a full-fledged, for-credit course within the Seattle and King County schools. It's a great example of how we can help kids succeed with programs that don’t fall into a traditional school curriculum, but are just as essential to their development and growth as something that would learn in their core classes.
**Social enterprises **like We.App have the potential to transform our societies. In this conversation, Toyia and I dig into the challenges of running one.
A big part of success in independent business is know "Why" you're doing what you're doing. It sounds simple, but there are always distractions or hard realities that pull you off that path. Toyia is a great example of someone who's used the clarity of her mission to keep herself disciplined and focused.
